The Adaptive Brain

Hello!

You’re receiving this because you’ve connected with And You before — through a course, webinar, event or one of our programmes. You may not normally receive my newsletter, but I wanted to invite you to something new we're launching this autumn.

The Adaptive Brain is a free 30-minute webinar series exploring how our brains adapt through some of life's biggest transitions — from pregnancy and becoming a parent to menopause and cognitive aging.

We'll look at questions like:

  • Does pregnancy permanently change your brain?
  • Is “baby brain” real?
  • Do dads’ brains change too?
  • Why can menopause make you feel like your brain isn't your own?
  • Do men’s and women’s brains age differently?
  • And is cognitive decline really an inevitable part of getting older?

No neuroscience background required.

Bring your coffee, breakfast, lunch — or baby — and give yourself 30 minutes to learn something new about your incredible brain.

I promise that you'll leave with a deeper understanding of the biology behind these transitions — and perhaps a little more empathy for yourself and the people experiencing them around you.

We're kicking off this Friday for Pregnancy & The Brain

Spoiler alert: Pregnancy changes your brain. Literally. Join me for 30 minutes to see what researchers found when they scanned women’s brains before and after pregnancy — and why losing gray matter may not mean what you think it does.

Friday 23 October · 13:15–13:45 CET · 7:15–7:45am ET

Can’t make Friday? Or want to join another topic?

Each webinar takes place twice, and you’re very welcome to join as many as you like.

All sessions take place from 13:15–13:45 CET.
For those joining from the US: normally 7:15–7:45am ET, but Europe changes clocks this weekend, so the Monday 26 October session will be 8:15–8:45am ET.

Know someone who'd enjoy this? Forward this email and invite them to join!

And if you work in HR, People & Culture or lead a team, this series is for you too. At And You, we work directly with individuals and with organisations, right at that messy intersection of work and life — because, as we all know, the two don't actually stay neatly separated. Our goal is to make those transitions just a little easier to navigate, for the person going through them and for the people and workplaces around them.

So bring a colleague, forward this to your manager or HR team, or simply come along yourself.

Hope to see you there,

Erica

P.S. If you don't normally receive my bi-weekly newsletter and would like to, you can sign up here. I write about the intersections of biology, behaviour and beliefs — across parenthood, relationships and work.

It wasn’t when I was pregnant. I don't have particularly strong memories of "pregnancy brain" or constantly losing my keys. But postpartum? My brain felt empty. There was room for when my baby...

Waiting until the kids were old enough to walk all day, not need a nap and be tall enough to enjoy most of the rides. Waiting for the new Frozen attraction to open. Finding the right weekend — not too hot, not too crowded, not a Swiss holiday or a French one, not too much time off school. And then, finally, you go. And...

The photo I didn't share was this one: me at the finish line. Yea, that’s me on the right there - feet barely leaving the ground, mouth wide open gasping for air. I was exhausted. I was sad. And I was mad. Because technically, I hadn't finished the race. My relay...
